God save the Queen

I’m writing this less than an hour after Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth died this afternoon.

Although we’ve known for some time that her Majesty was failing in health, when it was announced at lunchtime that her health was causing concern it was still a shock. And even more so this evening when the news of her death broke. I’m quite surprised at how emotional I have been this afternoon and even more so now.

And yet, for her, how wonderful it is. She has fallen asleep and will wake with God.

Her faith has been enormously important to her throughout her long reign and has undoubtably sustained her through some very difficult times, not the least of which was the death of her beloved husband Philip. I’m sure that same faith will help her family in the days to come.

They are talking about her faith now on the radio – quite strange in many ways for the BBC to be discussing faith in such a matter-of-fact way without any dissenting voices in the name of ‘balance’.

So, let’s pray for the repose of her soul, for her family, especially for Charles, for the country and all countries where she has been Head of State and for ourselves.

May she rest in peace and rise again in glory. God bless you Ma’am!
